The next two weeks we will carry out an intensive reading course in cooperation with Kolding Realskole. Every day in third lessons the fulltime students will read for 20 minutes. We have been to the library and borrowed books for the course. We will read both Danish and English books. At the end of the course the older students in the Primary class will do a book report on one of the chosen books.

Friday, January 8th, 2010Darwin days this week Thursday and Friday
Monday, January 4th, 2010As the school was closed due to the bad weather before Christmas, we have decided to relocate our two Darwin days this coming Thursday and Friday.
We are looking forward to having two inspiring and significant days.
Darwin days at The Cosmo
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009Tomorrow and Friday will be “Darwin days” at The Cosmo. The Science teachers have done a tremendous job in working together so the students in both Primary and Lower Secondary will be able to wrap up the school year of 2009 gaining knowledge from Charles Robert Darwin´s work.
The students will work together in groups within a mix of both classes and the introduction will start at 8.05 am. Thursday the students will have normal lessons from 1 pm and the rest of the day. Friday from 1 until 2 pm the students will among other things present their projects with the audience of several teachers and the part time students. The teachers that normally teach Thursday and Friday at The Cosmo will attend and help with the Darwin project.
We all look forward to some instructive and exciting days.

Pictures from our Christmas decorating day
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
When you are a teenager and are cutting decorations for Christmas, you definetely do not want to have your picture taken.
It´s great to have an older friend helping when you need a hand

Omar and Ayse Beyza are making a paper chain

Finally we got it all together after the whole Primary class helped each other.
Christmas decorations
Monday, November 30th, 2009Tomorrow we will decorate our classrooms for Christmas. After we are done cutting paper chains, red and green goblins, Christmas trees, folding paper stars and hearts, we will hopefully end up in a great Christmas mood.
The students are more than welcome to bring patterns and christmas music on a cd. The students in Lower Secondary will decorate from 8 am until 11 am, and the Primary students will decorate from 8 am until noon.
We hope that we will have a nice and different school day with all the students.
Dear Cosmo students and parents,
Friday, November 20th, 2009
Once again the school parties have come to an end, and the teachers and I wish to thank each one of you for a couple of very nice evenings. It is always a pleasure to meet under more informal circumstances, where we have a chance to talk with each other in a less structured manner.
It is impossible to avoid that a huge project like our school parties with between 800 and 1000 guests each evening will cause some disturbances in our everyday life and daily routines, but I do believe that everything has gone without problems, and that it has been an eventful week for us all to remember.
So thank you very much for your participation and your good spirits.
On behalf of the teachers,
Simon Mosekjær

The Host Family Experience
Host families are a key component of the Up with People experience.
Since 1965, more than 450,000 families in 38 countries have hosted Up with People participants. They open their homes and their hearts to young people from around the world. They are unfailingly warm and welcoming; they help make the Up with People program an unparalleled experience for its students.
Host families give our students a citizen’s perspective on the country they’re visiting, its culture, language and customs. In turn, host families benefit by gaining insight into the students’ home countries, values and cultures. It is truly an exchange.
Not surprisingly, many of the relationships that develop between host families and Up with People participants last for years, even lifetimes.
By the end of the week, many host families find they’ve acquired an “adopted” child and our students feel as if they’ve gained a new set of parents.
HOST FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES
From November 8 to14, host families are asked to provide our participants with a place to sleep, breakfasts, some evening meals, and transportation to and from Up with People activities.
Our schedule does not interfere with most work or school schedules.
All host families will attend a gathering prior to the group’s arrival, where individual schedules will be given out, questions answered, and an overview presentation on the visit will be given.

Families in the Kolding area will have the unique opportunity to bring a bit of the world into their own homes between November 8th and November 14th when an international cast of Up with People arrives in Kolding as a stop on their 2009 world tour.
Host families are being sought to keep one or more students from the 85-member Up with People cast which represents 20 countries and more than 25 states. “It is a great opportunity to experience other cultures while sharing your own,” explained Cheryssa Jensen.
The opportunity to stay with local families during their stay in each community is a centerpiece of Up with People’s 22-week program. The giving goes both ways…while families share their traditions and local attractions; the cast members share their experiences and cultures.
Local host families are asked to provide a bed, local transportation at the beginning and end of each day, as well as breakfast and most dinners. During most evenings, cast members will be home with the family to participate in their activities and interests.
In addition to many wonderful experiences with their new “son” or “daughter,” each host family will be invited to a special Up with People Show on Friday, November 13th.
Host an Up with People Cast Member
“I can honestly say that the dozens of families who have opened their homes to me during my time with Up with People is one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences I have had,” said Cheryssa Jensen. “I still stay in contact with many of them and I believe they will become lifelong friends,” she added.
“Those with smaller children or young teens in their home often find that the Up with People cast members are wonderful role models and provide a glimpse into other countries, cultures and traditions they might not often experience in Kolding,” Jensen added.
Local families in the Kolding area are being sought to host the cast members between November 8th and November 14th. Those interested in hosting are encouraged to contact Cheryssa Jensen on the Kolding Advance Team at cjensen@upwithpeople.org or by calling 27 99 75 84.
Up with People’s visit to Kolding is sponsored by Aperian Global, Business Kolding, Kolding Realskole, and The Cosmo – International School of Southern Denmark.
