Information overload

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Switch off your mobile!

Unplug your iPod!

And stop checking those emails!

We are almost always within reach of something to fill our brains. Mobile phones, iPods, portable DVD players, television, email, games consoles, Facebook, personal data assistants… the list goes on and on.

The result is that people are so dazed they have almost no time to reflect on the world around them, much less the future.technologies 300x183 Information overload

In this bright new over the edge technological world, something is surely missing and that something is focus and quiet moments.

We are able to tap into 50 million websites, 1.8 million books in print, 75 million blogs and other snowstorms of information, but we increasingly seek new knowledge in Google searches at the same time as juggling other tasks.

Through technology we can contact millions of people across the globe at the touch of a button. We connect more and more with even our closest friends and family via instant messaging, and the quick meetings we do have are interrupted by pings and beeps and multi-tasking.

Day by day our hectic lives eat away our capacity for deep focus and awareness, so much that one might wonder whether future generations will ever experience undisturbed thought and conversation…

Outing to Aarhus, Saturday the 4th of July

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Due to the fact that several students are not able to participate in the trip to Aalborg, it would be very expensive, so we have decided to go to Aarhus Saturday the 4th of July.

We leave from the school at 9.00 and will be back between 16.00 and 17.00.

gamle by 300x224 Outing to Aarhus, Saturday the 4th of July

In Aarhus we will visit the Gamle BY – the old town – which is 5-star world-class experience, and is under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. There are 75 historical houses, gardens, exhibitions, houses, shops, and workshops. The museum is a living and breathing experience of what it was like to live and work in a Danish market town, as it was in the old days. Here it is possible to experience a market town at the time of Hans Christian Andersen, where fairytale awaits just around the corner. Meet the people and characters of yesteryear, experience life as it was in their living rooms and kitchens; and smell the flowers right in their own gardens. Try out the old children’s games, or go on an exploration through-out the museums extensive exhibitions. Den Gamle By is also the home of The Danish Poster Museum, which displays interesting exhibitions throughout the year. Also ensure to visit the Danish Museum of Clocks and Watches and Den Gamle By’s large toy museum. Traditional tea garden, historical shops and a large Museum shop.

Afterwards we go to the Dyrepark – the animal resort – south of Aarhus to eat lunch and see some of the animals, which are two kinds of dears and wild dyrepark arhus 300x214 Outing to Aarhus, Saturday the 4th of Julyboar.

The animal resort is close to the beach, and if the weather allows it, we will walk down and play in the sand, but the students are not allowed to bath.

We need to know how many students, who will participate so please let us know as soon as possible.

The students will receive their report card Friday the 3rd of July before they go home.

Best regards,

Simon Mosekjær

The cost is approximately 100.00 for transport besides money for lunch.

Support the international school of Southern Denmark with a click

Friday, June 19th, 2009

The international school of Southern Denmark, The Cosmo, needs your help to become more visible on the World Wide Web. Help us by linking to www.thecosmo.dk from your company’s website.

Southern Denmark has an international school for children aged 5-16 years. The Cosmo – International School of Southern Denmark is situated in Kolding and was founded in cooperation between the private school Kolding Realskole and the trade organization Business Kolding. The Cosmo is Cambridge certified and is thus part of a global network of Cambridge schools.

The basis for the establishment of The Cosmo is a massive wish from the business community n the triangle area for an international school for children of foreign workers and expats. This wish has now come true. The situation in many companies is, however, rather different than it was, when the wish of the school was put forward. The school has students and engaged teachers and parents, but we need further support – and more students.

The most important issue for the school here and now is to ensure that all – both companies, their international workers and Danish workers, who would like to give their children an international education – know that the school exists. The primary source for information concerning the school is the World Wide Web, and that is the reason why we address you.

We need to give The Cosmo a higher rating on the search engines, when people Google for international schools in Denmark. Therefore we would be grateful, if you would establish a link from your website to the website of The Cosmo. It would be search support to the initiative that we are convinced the companies in Southern Denmark really need. Naturally, we hope that you will also draw the attention of your employees to the international school and the website www.thecosmo.dk.

The World around Us

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

At The Cosmo we constantly strive to broaden the students’ horizons. One of the ways, in which we do that, is to work together with schools around the world.

c aseflogo The World around UsWe are currently in contact with two schools, one in France and one in Zambia, with whom we hope to begin a project about global warming and sustainable development of new types of energy (wind, wave, solar energy and other types of non-polluting energies).

Moreover, the school is going to be a member of AEC-Net (Asia-Europe Classroom Net), which promotes collaborative cross-cultural learning and exchanges, and we hope to be able to make an exchange for the students to one of the member schools.

The aims of the AEC-Net are to foster collaboration across the member countries; to encourage the advancement of education through the use of info-communication technology; to develop innovative and interactive platforms offering online inter-cultural learning opportunities and to develop a network of schools in Asia and Europe.logo11 The World around Us
